The summer sailing season is upon us and on Sunday September 23 ten Flying Fifteens ventured out from South of Perth Yacht Club for the preseason regatta.
The racing was a lot closer than the AFL Grand Final the previous day with 5 races held in the morning in typical very light Easterly conditions followed, after lunch, by the final 3 races in a much more civilised Westerly. Thank you to the start and mark laying teams for some great work in testing conditions.
Philippa and Dean ( El Toro) from Freshie won the regatta by 1 point from Greg and Lillo ( Spot the difference) while Plonky steered Second Breakffast into third with Russell. It was great to see a couple of newer fleet members participating. Welcome to Mark Walters, Kate Edwards and Natalie Waddell.

The 2019 World titles in Ireland have been completed, with the best of the West Australian boats (Firefly from RFBYC) finishing in 4th place. The other West Aussies competing in the 72-boat fleet finished 21st (Glamour Buoys, also from RFBYC), 26th (Ffast Lane 4 from SoPYC), 38th (Final Fifteen Says She! from SoPYC - including an excellent 4th in the last race) and 45th (Aussie Way from SoPYC). The top three places were all filled by English boats, with Graham Vials and Chris Turner from Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club taking out their fourth World Title, having previously won in 2011, 2013 and 2015 before taking a break in 2017.
