At time of writing, 27 boats have entered for the 2019 National Championships in Adelaide.  15 of the entries are from WA:

• One entry from Princess Royal Sailing Club in Albany
• Two from Geraldton Yacht Club
• Four from Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club
• Eight from South of Perth Yacht Club

The 2019 AGM for FFIA will be held on Wednesday 2nd January at 10am at Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron, Adelaide - in conjunction with the National Titles. The Agenda and other relevant documents have been emailed to all Financial FFIA members. If you have not yet received them, then please contact the FFIA secretary, Michael Clark at wow3931@gmail.com. Please note that you will need to be a financial member of the association to be eligible to vote at the AGM.  And both skipper and crew will also need to be a financial member of the association to be eligible to sail in the National Titles.

The Flying Fifteen fleet from Royal Freshwater Bay YC and South of Perth YC joined forces for the Tally Hobbs Regatta held on Swan River over the weekend of 17 – 18 November. The regatta attracted 16 boats racing a 6 race series in ideal light to moderate winds. Racing kicked off on Saturday afternoon with 3 races held using windward/leeward courses on quite a tight race course in Freshwater Bay in front of the Royal Freshwater Bay YC clubhouse in a cool S/SW breeze. Two former world champions racing in different boats got caught out in race one by being called OCS. They were Dean McAullay crewing for Philippa Packer and Grant Alderson with Evan Moore as crew. This allowed Hamish Carnachan and Peter Mudford (RFBYC) to chalk up their first win from Emily and Kristine Pettersson (SoPYC) a well sailed 2nd. Continue reading →

The 2019 National Flying Fifteen Championships will be held at the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron in Adelaide between Saturday December 29, 2018 and Saturday January 5, 2019. Entries close on November 30, although late entries may be accepted (for an additional fee) after that date. The event should provide some interesting and challenging sailing; conditions in Adelaide during that time can range from extremely light to strong sea breezes similar to those we experience here in the West.  13 boats from WA have already committed to making the trip across the Nullarbor, making up more than half the fleet.  Some are transporting boats via container - others are planning to drive.  There should be quite a convoy heading across just after Christmas. The event is a qualifying event for the 2019 Worlds in Dun Laoghaire in Ireland.  Australia will only be allocated 12 places in the World Championships, and the Australian team will be selected based on the results achieved in Adelaide. Hopefully we will see quite a few WA boats in the team.
