Following a private farm burial, please join Penny and family in a last farewell for Nils Blumann. …
FFIWA acknowledges the passing of Nils Blumann. For all those who sailed with him and against him, he was an extraordinary mentor for the International Flying Fifteen (FF) class and his infectious enthusiasm and encouragement was a terrific spur to many to buy a boat, get involved and share in the fun! His passion for sailing these exciting little boats was legendary, particularly in the strong weather on the waters of Esperance Bay Yacht Club. Prior to and during his time as EBYC Commodore, he built up the FF fleet to be the major class of the Club.
The Flying Fifteen has definitely stood the test of time, as is proven by the passion of the people who sail them. It is a neat boat, exciting, sails like a dinghy, but is so much more forgiving (no capsizes with a keel!), only requires 2 crew and its sleek planning hull is just so much fun when the breeze gets up and it really ‘flies’!
